International Day of Forests (21 March) and World Water Day (22 March) celebrate two resources that are essential to life on our planet.
Forests cover around 30% of the Earth’s surface and provide a habitat for more than half of all animal and plant species. They play a vital role in combating climate change, protecting soil and regulating water quality, in addition to their ecological, economic, social and recreational value.
Water, the source of life, is an increasingly scarce resource: only around 3% of the planet’s water is fresh, and less than 1% is available for human consumption. Its preservation depends on all of us.
On 21 March, the Tapada Nacional de Mafra invites you to celebrate these two dates with a special activity: a group treasure hunt along a route of around 3 km, featuring challenges and discoveries about the forest and water.
Younger children accompanying the walking routes can also take part in “Forest Bingo”, a fun way to explore and learn about biodiversity.
An experience that reinforces the importance of preserving and using natural resources responsibly, helping to ensure a more sustainable future.
